Classification of materials, giving theoretical information about their internal structure and explaining basic material properties (physical, chemical, electrical, mechanical), atomic structure, interatomic bonds. Arrangements of atoms, crystal and amorphous structures. Lattice systems, crystal defects, allotropy and diffusion phenomena in metallic materials. Melting and solidification events. Mechanical properties of materials, effects of elastic and plastic deformation at atomic and macro scale, dislocation movements, strength increasing mechanisms.
